Visit to Nancy on a Beautiful Day

Last Saturday, we spontaneously decided to go to Nancy, a 45-minute train ride from Metz. It was a glorious day outside, and we enjoyed the scenery as the train followed the Moselle and its various canals. Our first stop in Nancy was Place Stanislas, a recently renovated public square, flanked by the Hotel de Ville, the Opera, and a number of restaurants. The square was large but a bit sterile. As we walked towards the older part of the city, we found a great little jazz restaurant - three tables, home-made pasta, one waiter/cook/jazz aficionado - and enjoyed a great lunch.
Our pursuit of Art Nouveau architecture began, and we walked through neighborhoods looking at incredible examples of the products of the Ecole de Nancy style. After visiting the Museum of the Ecole de Nancy, we took a bus back to the train station and enjoyed a drink before returning to Metz.
