Normandy Beaches

As David wrote a great entry about our visit to the D-Day beaches - on the day before D-Day - I'm posting some photos and my impressions.

Here's Omaha Beach, just below the U.S. Memorial and Cemetery.

Memorial arrangements were abundant.

There were poignant reminders that these soldiers did not die in vain and that their lives are remembered.

At the re-enactment in Sainte Marie du Mont, there were ample opportunities for interesting shots.

And the next day, with its ceremony and mass on Utah Beach, would add solemnity to the commemoration activities.

After I took this photo of David, we walked down to Utah Beach to search for rocks and shells, both of which will be given to veterans I know in El Paso.
